Job Title: Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Location: Pontefract, West Yorkshire
Contract Type: Long-term following a successful trial

Leader Education is seeking compassionate and dedicated Special Needs Teaching Assistants to support children and young people aged 9-18 in a specialist school setting in Pontefract. The school caters to students with a range of special educational needs, including Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and complex additional needs.

This role is ideal for individuals passionate about providing high-quality, tailored support to students with varying needs, helping them to thrive in a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide personalised 1:1 and small group support for students with PMLD, Autism, and other complex needs.
  • Assist with implementing tailored educational plans, including EHCPs, to meet students' individual goals.
  • Support students with personal care and mobility needs, using hoists or other equipment as required (training can be provided).
  • Encourage communication, independence, and social interaction through a variety of specialist approaches.
  • Contribute to sensory-based learning activities to enhance student engagement and development.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, therapists, and other professionals to ensure holistic support for students.
  • Promote a safe, nurturing, and positive environment, ensuring the welfare and safeguarding of all students.

The Successful Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly PMLD or Autism (desirable but not essential).
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting students with complex needs.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • The ability to adapt and respond to the unique challenges of working in a specialist school setting.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Willingness to undertake additional training, including moving and handling, if required.
