Job description
Leader Education are recruiting a Design Technology Teacher to work in a children's secure home in Leeds.
The home supports residents to engage in learning through formal on-site education. The home cares for 24 young people aged 10 to 18 who are referred to the home following court proceedings, placed on remand, or sentenced to a period of detention, or because they need to be placed in secure accommodation for their own safety or the safety of others.
You will play a vital role in the daily lives and long-term outlook for the vulnerable young people at the home, who may have complex needs and display challenging behaviours. The goal is to inspire change in attitudes, behaviours, learning and emotions.
You will need experience working in education supporting children with complex needs and challenging behaviour to be considered for this role. You will also need experience in a Design Tech role, specialising in woodwork.
You will be expected to provide 1:1 support for our young people with additional learning needs in accessing all aspects of the curriculum. We are looking for experienced, enthusiastic, adaptable candidates with the personal qualities to connect with and inspire vulnerable children and young people.
The role is long term and full-time.
The successful candidate will have:
- A passion for working with children with additional needs.
- Experience of working with children and young adults with challenging behaviour previously.
- Provide calming and nurturing support for some of the most vulnerable students with EHCP's.
- An enhanced DBS on the update service
- A passion for the progress of children with SEMH needs
- An ability to work as part of a team
- Managing behaviours
