Job description

Leader Education are recruiting a Driver/Chaperone to work at a small school based in Gateshead. The ideal Driver/Chaperone will have a D1 Licence, experience chaperoning, and exposure or have an understanding of young people with different behavioural and Mental Health needs. This role may also require the successful candidate to fulfil responsibilities as a Caretaker within the school. The school caters for young people from Key stage 2 onwards with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties.

For this position, the normal working pattern is 20 hours (split shift) Monday-Friday between 7:00am until 4:30pm and is a long-term position.

To be successful with Leader Education, the candidate will have:

  • A D1 Licence, and experience driving a vehicle with this capacity.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service, or the willingness to obtain one.
  • The ability to maintain clear communication with passengers to ensure a positive and comfortable experience.
  • Respect towards the privacy and confidentiality of passengers.
  • The appropriate attire whilst on duty.
  • To ability to arrive on time for scheduled pickups and drop-offs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Adaptability skills and a commitment to meeting the diverse needs of students.
  • The capacity to maintain the premises to a high standard, including daily cleaning duties, repairs, DIY tasks, occasional painting, and ensuring outdoor areas are tidy and safe.
  • The ability to ensure the school complies with statutory regulations related to health and safety, fire safety, etc., by conducting regular checks and keeping accurate records.
  • The capability of carrying out ongoing maintenance and daily cleaning tasks.
  • A strong knowledge of health and safety procedures and how to apply them in the workplace.
