Job Title: Learning Support Assistant (SEND)
Location: Sunderland
Contract Type: Long term

As part of Ascent Multi-Academy Trust, this vibrant and inclusive SEND school located in Sunderland is looking for a Learning Support Assistant. They cater to students aged 11-19 with a range of special educational needs, including moderate learning difficulties, autism spectrum conditions, and complex needs. The school provides high-quality education, tailored to meet the diverse needs of their students, enabling them to achieve their full potential and thrive in society.

With their last Ofsted rating having a range of outstanding and good with an overall 'good' rating, they have significantly improved over the years to create a vibrant, enjoyable, and inclusive space for children.

The normal working pattern is Monday-Friday 8:30am until 4.30pm and is a long-term position, given a successful trial.

The successful candidate will have:

  • DBS or be willing to gain one.
  • Educational background or work experience relevant to the position, i.e. teaching assistant, nursery practitioner, or support worker.
  • Specialised training or working experience in autism education is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Adaptability and a commitment to meeting the diverse needs of students.
  • A good knowledge on EHCP's.
  • The ability to assist in lessons and activities.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
  • Understanding of the importance of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • The ability to support the pupil in accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities.
