Job description

Leader Education are recruiting a Learning Support Assistant for a Newcastle based secondary school who cater for children who have Social, Emotional and Mental. The successful Learning Support Assistant will have an ability to support teachers and participate to the wellbeing and development of students with SEMH needs. This school takes pride in upholding its fundamental principles, providing great education to 100 students. It caters to their diverse requirements within a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.

The normal working pattern is Monday to Friday 8:30am until 4pm and is a long-term position.

The successful candiate will have:

  • A Child & Adult Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or the willingness to obtain one
  • A strong classroom presence
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • An understanding of SEMH and the ability to support students with emotional and behavioural challenges
  • Patience and empathy in dealing with students facing emotional and behavioural challenges
  • Flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of students and the school environment
  • The ability to implement and support the development of positive behaviour
  • Knowledge of relevant educational policies, procedures, and safeguarding practices
