Job Title: SEMH Tutor
Location: Pontefract, West Yorkshire
Contract Type: Long-term role with potential to go permanent
Leader Education is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Tutor to support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a specialist setting in Pontefract. This role is ideal for an individual with a passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential in a supportive and structured environment.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver tailored academic and life skills sessions to students with SEMH needs, either 1:1 or in small groups.
- Adapt teaching methods to engage and inspire students who may have experienced trauma, disengagement from education, or challenging behaviors.
- Support students in developing emotional resilience, self-regulation, and confidence in learning.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with students, acting as a mentor and role model.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external agencies to create personalised learning plans.
- Implement effective behavior management strategies in line with the setting's policies.
- Track and report student progress, celebrating achievements and identifying areas for further support.
The Successful Candidate Will Have:
- Experience working with students with SEMH needs, either in an education or alternative provision setting.
- The ability to differentiate learning materials and engage students with diverse needs.
- Strong behavior management skills and the ability to de-escalate challenging situations.
- A compassionate, patient, and proactive approach to supporting young people.
- A valid enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
- A teaching qualification (desirable but not essential).
