Job description
Leader Education are recruiting a SEND Learning Support Assistant to work at a small Secondary school based in Sunderland. This school caters for young people aged 11 to 19 years old who may have Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and/or Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). The ideal candidate will have some experience working alongside children with SEND in an educational environment and have a true passion for supporting vulnerable children.
This schools most recent Ofsted report was presented as "Good" as it continues to be a warm and welcoming special academy with a high focus on aiming to meet the individual needs of all students and families.
The normal working pattern is Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:00pm and is a long-term position given a successful trial.
The successful candidate will have:
- An enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to support the pupil accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities
- A knowledgeable understanding of the different types of Special, Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) some children are faced with
- A compassionate personality and values honesty, inclusivity and respect
- Experience working with children in an educational setting is desirable but not essential
