Job Title: Complex SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Keighley , West Yorkshire

Contract Type: Long Term

Daily Rate: £85 - £100

Leader Education are seeking Complex SEN Teaching Assistants to work in a specialist SEN school based near Keighley. The school supports students aged 11 - 19 with a range of Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Mild / Severe Autism, Downs Syndrome and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). The ideal candidate will have experience supporting children and young people on a 1:1 or small group basis within a classroom setting.

Patience and a nurturing approach whilst in the classroom is the best match for this school. Your responsibilities would include, close interaction with a small group of pupils, making sure they feel supported and are able to complete there work. Whilst also making sure that there needs are met (medicine, food, walks) depending on what the individual requires.

The working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm, hours may slightly change depending on the school.

The successful candidate will have:

  • School experience is essential, ideally supporting pupils with SEN or SEMH needs. This is because the schools pupils require a lot of close support which if you were new to the role would be very diffcult and not what the school are looking for.
  • Makaton and/or BSL would be advantageous.
  • Team Teach level 2, or willing to take part in our Team Teach course when we hold them.
  • Be able to reliably commute to work via Public transport or personal vehicle.
  • A patient, nurturing approach to supporting students with a wide range of abilities and needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and other support staff.
  • The ability to adapt and respond to the dynamic and individual needs of students.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
