Job description

Leader Education are recruiting a Learning Support Assistant, for a Secondary School based in North Tyneside. This provision caters to students ranging from 11 to 16 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

This is a temporary to permanent role starting immediately, which could become permanent for the right individual.

The normal shift pattern is Monday to Friday 8:30 to 16:30 and is a long term position.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Teacher in the classroom.
  • Being a motivating and supportive member to the children.
  • Encourage students by assisting them in what they may need in the classroom.
  • To support them in communicating effectively.
  • To be proactive when explaining instructions.
  • Empowering the students when reaching achievements or small goals.
  • Using a key form of communication such as paraphrasing or summarising to conduct a tailored approach to students learning.
  • To follow the student's educational health care plans.
  • Help to plan classroom activities and prepare materials needed for each lesson.

Requirements:

  • Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one.
  • Experience of working with children and/or young people with SEMH.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, flexibility, and adaptability to meet each child's needs.
  • Willingness to adapt to the range of duties given.
