Job description

At Leader Education, we are seeking SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA) to work with children in KS3 and KS4 at a SEMH school in South shields. The ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant will have experience working with young people who have social, emotional, and mental health needs, as well as a genuine commitment to helping them reach their full potential.

The normal working pattern is Monday-Friday from 8:30am until 4:00pm and is a long-term position.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates will need an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) or the willingness to obtain one
  • Minimum of a high school diploma; a relevant teaching assistant qualification is desirable
  • Previous experience working with secondary-aged students in an educational setting
  • A compassionate and empathetic approach to supporting young people with diverse needs
  • Effective communication and people skills
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Resilience and adaptability when faced with challenging situations
  • A commitment to continuous professional development

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to students with SEMH needs
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment
  • Monitor and manage student's behaviour and wellbeing
  • Support the development of children and their social and emotional skills
  • Prepare and adapt learning materials to meet the needs of students
