Job Title: Learning Support Assistant

Location: Gateshead

Contract Type: Long term

Leader Education are recruiting a Learning Support Assistant to work within an alternative provision in Gateshead.

Pupils within this school have a range of behavioural, social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) who have been excluded from mainstream school or are at risk of exclusion.

The ideal candidate will play a vital role in empowering students to develop positive life skills and make informed decisions, helping them build a brighter future and contribute meaningfully to society.

The normal working pattern is Monday-Friday 8:30 until 16:30 and is a long-term position.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a fully enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one.
  • Have experience of working in a transferable role or with SEMH individuals.
  • Lead activities with individuals or small groups to facilitate educational development.
  • Be confident in working alongside students, ensuring they are fully supported.
  • Provide a stimulating and well-structured learning environment suitable for pupils with SEMH.
  • Be flexible and resilient.
  • Work effectively with parents, carers, and other members of multidisciplinary teams to provide the best support.
  • Possess communication skills that can be personalised to suit students of different abilities.
