Job description

Leader Education are recruiting a Community SEMH Tutor to work within the community based in Northumberland. This has been created and organised to help children who refuse to go to school and have SEND needs but need to be kept up to date with their studies. It is essential for applicants to drive for this role.

The ideal Tutor will have an extensive knowledge of the current curriculum in schools and is able to support children aged 3 to 19 years old who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) on a 1:1 or small group basis. It is essential that all those who apply, have recent experience working with children or have the relevant qualifications for this role.

The normal working pattern is Monday-Friday 8:30 until 15:30 and is a long-term position.

The successful candidate will have:

  • An enhanced DBS on the Update service or the willingness to obtain one
  • A Higher-Level Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 4 or 5) is desirable
  • A QTS qualification is desirable
  • An ability to work with the child on core subjects while integrating life skills and social development activities
  • Encourage confidence, resilience, and independence through positive reinforcement
  • Keep accurate records of the child's achievements, challenges, and ongoing support plans
