Here at Leader Education, we take compliance extremely seriously. The safety of the schools we partner with and the pupils that they educate is after all a number one priority.
As a Leader Education candidate, you will undergo various compliance checks as part of the registration process to ensure you are fully vetted.
Once you have completed the online registration form, you will be invited to attend a face-to-face interview. Here you’ll meet a senior member of our education recruitment team whilst the supporting documentation requested will be verified to ensure our strict safeguarding standards are met. The checks below will also be undertaken before the registration process can be completed.
The reference check
As part of your registration with Leader Education, you will be required to submit details of at least two professional referees, one of which must be from your current or most recent place of employment. Referees must all be senior members of management.
The identification check
You must provide proof of identification to support your application. This includes a valid passport, UK biometric residence permit or UK driving licence.
Your date of birth will also be checked against your proof of identification. Candidates must therefore provide a passport, driving licence, UK birth certificate, or a valid EU national identity card for verification.
The barred list check
All current, previous and variations of your surname will be submitted for a barred list check via the teachers’ pensions online checking system by our experienced education recruitment specialists as part of the registration process.
The prohibition and sanction checks
There are a number of prohibition and sanction checks you will have to undergo as part of Leader Education’s registration process. This includes checks to identify teachers who have failed induction or probation, teachers and support staff who have been prohibited from working within the sector, and professionals who have been barred from independent schools, free schools and academies.
General Teaching Council for England (GTCE) sanction checks will also be completed at this stage.
The DBS check
Our education recruitment consultants complete a disclosure and barring service check (more commonly referred to as a ‘DBS check’) via the DBS update service. Your DBS certificate and signed consent is needed to complete this check.
If you do not have your original DBS certificate to hand, a new DBS certificate can be requested by our team using the online application service.
The change of name check
Your application will be checked for any changes of name. Candidates must therefore provide where applicable marriage certificates/civil partnership certificates, divorce papers or deed poll certificates as part of the registration process.
The proof of address check
We require proof of your current home address to proceed with the registration process. You must therefore provide a recent (no more than 3 months old) utility bill, bank statement, landline phone bill or credit card statement along with a current council tax bill, mortgage statement, P45 or P60. The latter must be less than 12 months old.
The qualifications check
Your qualifications will also be verified. We liaise with the relevant issuing institution or governing body to confirm these.
The teaching status of all UK and overseas trained teachers with QTS accreditation will be checked via the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL).
The overseas police check
We help candidates who originate from overseas access the job roles they desire. During the registration process, all overseas candidates and UK teachers who have lived or worked overseas for more than 6 months during the last 5 years will undergo an overseas police check.
The right to work check
Our education recruitment specialists will use your passport and visa where applicable to establish your right to work within the UK.
The medical fitness to work check
All of our candidates will be required to complete a medical declaration to confirm that they are medically fit to work.
The disqualification check
As part of the registration process, candidates who are applying to work in a specific age range will undergo a disqualification check.
Ongoing checks with Leader Education
We don’t just complete the checks above on a one-off basis. Many of the checks detailed on this page are reprocessed regularly to ensure the highest standard of safeguarding. The DBS check and barred list checks are completed every 6 months for example. Whilst the NCTL check is completed annually. Visa checks are also repeated where applicable.
