Job description

Leader Education are recruiting a Mental Health Teaching Assistant to work at a primary school based in Sunderland. This school caters for children aged 7 to 11 years old and prides itself on being a safe and positive school for children to thrive in. The ideal candidate will have some experience working alongside children in an educational setting as well as a genuine passion for supporting children who may struggle with their Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

This school's most recent Ofsted report was presented as "Good" as it continues to offer a broad, stimulating curriculum that supports the needs of all students.

The normal working pattern is Monday to Friday 8:30 to 3:30pm and is a long-term position given a successful trial.

The successful candidate will have:

  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working alongside children who may have SEND and/or SEMH needs
  • A compassionate personality and values honesty, inclusivity and respect
  • A knowledgeable understanding of safeguarding and ensuring the wellbeing of children
  • The ability to support the pupil in accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities
