Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant (Moving & Handling)
Location: Wakefield, West Yorkshire
Contract Type: Long-term role with potential to go permanent

Leader Education is seeking a skilled and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant with Moving & Handling training to join a specialist provision supporting children and young people aged 11-19 with complex and severe learning difficulties. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students who require additional support in their education and care.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with complex and severe learning difficulties, both 1:1 and in small groups.
  • Assist with the physical needs of students, including personal care, mobility, and transfers, in line with Moving & Handling protocols.
  • Implement EHCPs to support the academic, social, and emotional development of each student.
  • Support the teacher in delivering engaging, sensory-based lessons and activities designed to meet the diverse needs of the students.
  • Create a safe and nurturing learning environment that encourages student participation and progress.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, therapists, and other professionals to ensure holistic care and support.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide feedback to senior staff, parents, and carers.

The Successful Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, particularly those with complex or severe learning difficulties.
  • Valid Moving & Handling training/certificates (essential).
  • A compassionate, patient, and proactive approach to working with students with additional needs.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • A valid enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
